I had a blast at the UNC vs. Duke game today! I did a lot of sport photography in college for my job with my school’s sport clubs program, but never anything on this scale (although this was just for fun)!
Sports photography is challenging for me. I don’t really follow sports (except quidditch, and even then I mostly only cared about our team), so I don’t always have a good sense of where the ball is going to go. But I love that I get to learn something new and do something I love (photography!) at the same time.
I love getting the perfect action shot, but I also love getting good shots of what’s happening on the sidelines.
Today at the beginning of the game one of the cheerleaders proposed to his (also a cheerleader) girlfriend. And I was right there and took pictures as it was happening and ahhhh! It was adorable. All her cheerleader friends tackled her in a hug after she said yes. I gave her my card so she could get in contact with me if she wanted copies of the photos I took and I hope she emails me.
Also, a few members of the US Women’s World Cup team were there!!!
And I got to meet them and hold their World Cup trophy! *Dies* I don’t normally follow soccer, but I did pay attention to the women’s team last year and wow.
Speaking of celebrities, Rameses was there and sweet (and so soft wowza). He was chilling and eating leaves.
What a photogenic dude.
During halftime they brought lots of little kids into this space between the stands and the field and let them throw around mini footballs. Adorable children. My weakness. Also one of my favorite things to photograph.
Today was most fun I’ve ever had at a football game! If I could spend all the football games I went to on the sidelines or up in a fancy booth with free food, I’d probably be a huge football fan. Scratch that, I’d definitely be a huge fan. Also, UNC won!!!!!
