Hey guys, in case you didn’t know:
So when I went to visit NYC to see Brennen and realized that there was a Star Wars costume exhibit only blocks from his apartment, I begged to go see it (note: it did not really take any begging, Brennen likes Star Wars too).
It’s at the Times Square Discovery building and was really cool.
Costumes from both the original trilogy and the new trilogy were featured, and even some costumes from the new new movie.
I’m a huge fan of the costumes of Star Wars, so getting to see them up close was such a treat. My only regret is that I assumed it would be no photographs allowed (like the Avengers exhibit that had been there before), so I didn’t bring my camera, but photos are allowed as long as you don’t use your flash, so don’t get there unprepared like I did and resort to taking grainy phone photos.
One of the cooler features, in my opinion, was that in several places they had samples of fabric from the costumes on display that you could look at up close.
There was a whole room dedicated to Padme’s costumes (not to mention countless other Padme costumes scattered throughout the exhibit). This was my favorite part of the exhibit and I probably would have stood drooling for much longer if Brennen hadn’t been ready to move on. The set up was really well thought through – all the costumes in this room had mirrors set up behind them so you could see the backs of the costumes too!
In elementary I school I wanted to wear this for Halloween. My mum vetoed saying it wouldn’t be warm enough for the cold weather and maybe not entirely appropriate for a 10 year old given the bare shoulders and back. It’s still one of my favorite costumes because it’s so gorgeous.
Instead, I went as battle Padme pre-getting her shirt strategically torn.
Age 10, cameo appearance by my little brother as Mace Windu.
If Padme and pretty dresses aren’t your jam, there were plenty of other costumes to look at and a room with a lot of lightsabers and guns.
We also saw an old green friend…
The last room had three costumes from the new new movie:
And interactive screens where a stormtrooper or Darth Vader mimicked your movements.
There was a smallish gift shop. I was most drawn to this adorable backpack. If it hadn’t been so expensive, I probably would have gotten it, as it was the perfect small size but alas…
I had a blast at this exhibit. I adore the costumes from Star Wars and seeing them up close with all their details was incredible. I only wish I had brought my camera to capture better pictures. If you happen to be in NYC the exhibit is there for something like the next year, so definitely take the time to go see it!
Stay magical readers! (Also, who is excited for the new movie? AHHHHHH)
