Resolutions Update Jan 2016

Can you believe we’re already a whole month into 2016? Ahhhhhh. I thought it would be interesting to see how I’m doing on my New Year’s Resolutions.

Learn to Sew

I’m doing okay on this resolution! Earlier this month I finished my Belle Christmas dress, and I’ve started working on a Merida dress. Hopefully I’ll finish that in the next few days and can get some pictures to show you guys.

Write my Novel

Haha, I said I wanted to write 10,000 words a month. That did not happen. However, this was partially an active decision I made. After looking at the novel I’m working on I realized I really needed to sit down and flesh out my characters/ plot/ world a bit more. This meant that trying to force out 10,000 words just didn’t make sense because I don’t know where the story is going and inevitably I would just have to rework anything I wrote anyway. I also started a new job and spent a lot of time at school to get everything set up in my classroom, etc so in the future I’m hoping to accomplish more on my writing. That said I did write some this month, just definitely not 10,000 words.

I’m bumping back my timeline. Instead of finish my novel by May-ish, I’m aiming to finish before the end of the year!

Exercise/ Train for the Princess Half-Marathon!

Am I ready for a half marathon? No. Am I going to be on the start line anyway? Yes.

I’m pleasantly surprised at how well I’ve kept up on exercising since starting a new job. I’ve still managed to hit the gym about twice a week. I’d love to up this but it’s not a bad place to be.

¡Learn Spanish!

I’ve pretty much decided to get rid of this resolution. The school I’ve ended up at doesn’t have as many Spanish speaking students as the school I was originally looking at. While I’m still interested in learning another language, this isn’t as much of a priority. Instead, I’ll focus the time on accomplishing my other resolutions.

Travel

I have done exactly none of this. But I have been planning my trip to Disneyworld for the Princess Half-Marathon. I also now have a job and am making money so I can fund a trip when I decide to go somewhere.

This month was pretty consumed with getting set up in my new job and lesson planning, so I’m pleased with what I did manage to accomplish. I also kept up with my unofficial resolutions to keep reading, writing blog posts, and working to improve my mental health.

How about you? How are your resolutions going?

Stay magical readers!
