Remember the rooftop bar in Montreal that I reviewed a few days ago? The same building is home to Maggie Oakes, where we got breakfast one day on our trip.
The weather was nice, so we ate outside, but there was also plenty of indoor setting. I’m kicking myself that I didn’t take a picture of the lovely view from our table. We looked out onto Place Jacques Cartier, which is a beautiful square in Old Montreal.
I don’t drink coffee, so I can’t really tell you anything about how these drinks tasted, but I can tell you that they made for a pretty picture.
We ordered a fresh fruit plate to share, and everything tasted fresh and sweet.
On to the star of this review, my brioche French toast with caramelized apples and maple syrup. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I love French toast, so when I saw it on the menu, I immediately knew I would be ordering. At first I wasn’t sure how well the caramelized apples would go with the other flavors, but trust me they made the dish extra amazing. The brioche was light and the syrup mixed with the flavor of the caramel from the apples to make for some really great French toast. Was it a little like eating dessert for breakfast? Yes. Did I care? No. My only complaint is that I wanted more of it, although I should thank the restaurant for forcing me to eat a healthier portion size.
My family also enjoyed their meals, but I was too busy inhaling mine to get pictures. I think my choice was the best, but everyone else enjoyed their food too.
Looking at Maggie Oakes’ website, it looks like for lunch and dinner their focus is grilled meats. We didn’t eat another meal there while we were in Montreal, but if the quality is anything like their breakfast, I’m sure their dinner menu is equally tasty.
